Purchasing Manager
Reports: General Manager
Location: Upper Midwest
Salary: Commensurate with experience (Target 70’s-80’s+ Bonus+ Profit sharing) Total comp around 100K
This position is responsible for overseeing the Procurement Department. Managing current suppliers as well as having a heavy emphasis on finding new suppliers, methods of production, and new products worldwide. Improving over all logistics with a desire to implement Lean in the supply chain, both domestically and overseas.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Develops a supply base that meets/exceeds our quality, cost, delivery, and strategic objectives related to growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
Establishes and monitors supplier performance metrics to include, orders shipped on time and complete, percent of defects received, etc.
Measures suppliers’ ability to engineer solutions which increase value (not cost) to Company. These solutions can be (but are not limited to) material substitutions, new products with Company application, and process improvements on the floor.
Assists the Director of Materials in the development of strategic initiatives for the business.
Develops and manages utilities spending plans which are to be presented and reviewed by upper management on a quarterly basis.
Monitors and develops a metric which will assess Company’s risk with suppliers and product. Examples are: a single source, a sole source, a specific commodity, logistics issues, and global opportunities and risks.
Travels to current and new suppliers as appropriate, including overseas.
Conducts performance reviews of direct reports and provides feedback and recognition as appropriate.
Performs duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education/Skills/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with 5-10 years of experience in the Procurement or related field is required. Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience is a plus. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.). Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), strong interpersonal skills, time management, and team-building skills are required. Ability to handle multiple priorities, a high level of initiative, strong problem-solving and negotiation skills, good judgment, and the ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and confidential information are also essential for success. Must be flexible with the ability to work effectively in a changing work environment. |
